Childhood Kidney Problems

Kidney problems in childhood are sometimes genetic which leads to the improper development of Kidneys. But, in some cases, there are a few conditions that appear during later life like urinary tract infection, nephrolithiasis, and so on. Some of the kidney diseases which are commonly present during birth include

  • Posterior urethral valve obstruction
  • Fetal hydronephrosis
  • Polycystic kidney disease
  • Renal tubular acidosis

During later life, children tend to develop some diseases like high blood pressure, kidney stones, nephritis, and urinary tract infections.

Children suffering from kidney problems show symptoms like fever, edema, burning micturition, increased frequency of urination, recurrence of bedwetting, and blood in the urine.

Most congenital problems are diagnosed during prenatal scanning and can be treated with medication and surgery. In general, kidney diseases are diagnosed with the help of physical examination, urine test, blood test, ultrasound imaging, and biopsy.

Children with kidney problems are more prone to develop kidney failure that may be either acute or chronic. In the majority of cases, kidney failure in children is usually treated with a kidney transplant.
